Painting live at Monte Carlo Party charity event

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Cynthia Chartièr began studying art when she was eight years old, at the Notre Dame Art School.  She continued her studies during the summer months at the Boston Museum School.  Then completed her formal art education at the Montserratt College of Art and later,  at the Norton Museum School of Art.

After college, Cynthia found the magic of theatre to be inescapable.  So she began working as scenic artist and set decorator for the Royal Poinciana Playhouse and Burt Reynolds Dinner Theatre.  Translating the whimsical musicals and dramatic plays became the main course of inspiration for her work.  Then after working as a trompe l'oeil artist for some of the residential homes in Palm Beach, Cynthia's narrative style was beginning to form.

After traveling throughout the United States and parts of Europe Cynthia finally settled down in Dallas, Texas, where she now resides.

Inspired by the way philosophy, ancient culture and the masters of literature evolved through time, Cynthia's process also evolved.  She changed from painting in oil to mixed-media acrylic collage on canvas using layers of rich vibrant color, glaze to create a prism like affect, with symphony sheet music, french manuscript, numbers transcribed on handmade rag papers, and  rare imported fabrics from parts of Africa and Egypt for texture and depth.

Language and symbolism are important aspects of conveying the secrets of the riddles, that tell the stories hidden in each one of her paintings.  Layers of rich vibrant color and glaze are used as a parallel to express the layers of emotion that we all experience as we ourselves evolve through our own day to day adventures.  The sensual curving shapes in the composition translate as a philosophy that flexibility can be used as a tool to manifest the dreams we all hope to create as our reality.

CHARTIÈR'S work has been exhibited in  Dallas, Austin, Houston, Boston, Palm Beach, Los Angeles, and is part of the permanent collection of the Jesuit Dallas Museum.
